Free printable receipt template
A receipt proves money changed hands; an invoice asks for it. Use this template whenever you collect a payment in person or get paid upfront — deposits, package purchases, cash jobs.
The fastest way to produce one: open the invoice generator, set the invoice number to RCPT-001 style, describe the payment in a single line item (for example “Payment received in full — kitchen remodel, milestone 2”), and set the due date equal to the issue date. Download the PDF and mark it “PAID” in the notes.
What a receipt should contain
- Your business name, address and contact details
- The payer's name
- Receipt number and the date the payment was received
- The amount received and the payment method (cash, card, transfer, check number)
- What the payment covers — the job, the invoice number it settles, or the package purchased
- Any balance remaining, if it was a partial payment
Invoice vs receipt — the short version
An invoice is a request for payment issued before or when work is delivered. A receipt is confirmation of a payment received. Small businesses need both: the invoice drives cash in, the receipt closes the loop and keeps the customer's records straight. See our longer comparison in invoice vs receipt.
